If you’re a writer or musician and want a place to stay in Franklin, TN then check out the Cottage on Main Street. I’ve stayed there twice and love it. It’s quiet and restful but within walking distance to downtown Franklin as well. You can book it for a night, weekend, or negotiate an extended stay with the owners. They are wonderful! Lynne and I frequently visit the Nashville area, to see our son and daughter-in-law who live in Nashville’s 12 South neighborhood. We usually stay in hotels or small rentals in or very near the city. But on our most recent visit in early January, we decided to shake things up a bit. We were interested in exploring the Franklin and Leiper’s Fork areas. We found that the Cottage on Main Street, just a short stroll from downtown Franklin, to be the perfect location for doing this.

The Cottage is actually a carriage house behind a main residence. It feels like a complete small home — not just an outfitted garage or an in-house room or suite. The main bedroom has an adjustable queen bed and a nice-sized closet with a dresser. A second small sleeping area has a two-person trundle bed.

The kitchen is very modern and nicely equipped. It’s well stocked with basics like coffee, sugar, and spices (and jars of mini candy bars, which I ate entirely too many of!), but there was no bread, yogurt, cereal, or anything like that. So if you’re planning to eat in, you’ll need to shop at a nearby grocery. No issue for Lynne and me, because we preferred to walk into town for the many nice coffee shops and casual eateries there.

The bathroom is clean and well-equipped, with a shower-tub. Living room furnishings were very comfortable — good for lounging and reading. There are maps and other “about the area” brochures, but we found it useful to take the short walk to the extensively supplied visitor’s bureau in town to get the more detailed stuff. Books and CDs are few, and mostly in the inspirational and religious vein; bring your own reading and music if your interests run differently. (There’s an excellent used book store, Landmark Booksellers, on the opposite end of Franklin’s small downtown — not too far of a walk.)

It was a great to have such a nice, comfy, relaxing place to return to after full days of exploring. We made arrangements for our stay here via phone and email with Jason, the property manager. He’s a delight — so pleasant and helpful. We met Steve, the owner, only because we arrived a bit early on our first day, and he was still straightening up for us. Steve too is as nice as can be… and we appreciated that he pretty much just left us alone after that nice greeting.

All in all, a terrific place to stay while visiting Franklin — or really the entire Nashville area. Highly recommended!Chris & Lynne Kochmanski, Saline, Michigan

If real estate value is all about location, location, location, then “The Cottage” is the most prime Franklin, Tennessee, property available. We parked our vehicle at the door and walked to the unbelievable historic sites, a variety of fabulous restaurants, and the wonderful Franklin theater. When deciding to dine at home, “The Cottage” gourmet kitchen is meticulously stocked, and the back yard offers a grill with a serene pre/post dining, leisure area. “The Cottage” is an experience not to be missed, your own Walden Pond in the center of Franklin, Tennessee. Thank you for allowing us to use your lovely cottage while we were visiting Franklin. You have made this place an inviting and comfortable place. We loved the time we had here (especially walking around town) and appreciate your hospitality. We look forward to coming here again on our next visit to Franklin! Gail and Ty, Michigan

The Cottage on Main Street was the perfect place for me to lay low for a few weeks. Most of the time places for rent are a slight downgrade in quality from the pictures advertised. This cottage’s quality blows the pictures out of the water. It’s blocks from downtown Franklin and I wondered if it would be noisy but it ended up being quiet, comfortable, and a perfect place to hang out. The incredible kitchen is already decked out with whatever you could think of. If you want quality in downtown Franklin, this is the spot. Jake Ousley, Nashville Singer-Songwriter

As a full time PhD student, my life stays fairly busy and hectic. My stay at the Cottage in Franklin was the perfect contrast! Everything was so tranquil and lovely, from rocking chairs on the porch to morning views of a private backyard to such beautiful decor. It feels so private and “away from it all,” but it’s just a short walk to downtown Franklin. Such a cute town! Loved the boutique stores, coffee shops and Sweet CeCe’s. I’ll be back to stay at the Cottage when I need another getaway! Nancy McCabe, PhD Nursing Candidate, Emory University
